Freeman Asia (http://www.iie.org/en/Who-We-Are/News-and-Events/Press-Center/Press-Releases/2010/2010-12-01-IIE-Relaunches-Freeman-Asia-Program) - Freeman-ASIA provides financial support to American undergraduates to study abroad for academic credit back home during the summer, semester or full academic year in one of 15 countries/regions in East and Southeast Asia. The program's goal is to increase the number of Americans with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures, and expand interest in Asian studies on U.S. campuses.
Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) (http://www.fundforeducationabroad.org/) - FEA was created in order to open doors for deserving education abroad students. Starting with the 2011-2012 academic year, FEA will award funds for students planning to study abroad on any academically rigorous program. FEA scholarships are intended to meet the financial needs of students who might not be eligible for government grants or existing funds limited to specific programs or groups of students.
BUTEX North American Scholarships (http://www.butex.ac.uk/?q=node/12) - each year BUTEX awards sixteen scholarships to students studying abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year. Eight scholarships are available to North American students studying in the UK. The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university. Applications will be accepted starting in January and the deadline for all applications is in May.
Diversity Abroad (http://www.diversityabroad.com/scholarships) - aimed at increasing non-traditional student participation in education abroad in the Asia/Pacific region.
Circumnavigators Club Around the World Grant (http://www.circumnavigators.homestead.com/) - $9,000 to develop and carry out a research project involving a minimum of ten weeks of travel to at least five different countries. Applications due November 1 of even-numbered years.
Fulbright Program (http://www.iie.org/TemplateFulbright.cfm?section=Fulbright1) - Sponsored by the US Department of State, the Fulbright Program provides funding for graduate studies, research and teaching abroad. MSU's Fulbright Advisor is Dr. Frank D'Itri. firstname.lastname@example.org Deadline is late September.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (http://www.iie.org/gilman/) - $5000 per semester or academic year for students currently receiving federal Pell Grants. Deadlines in late September and early March.
Grand Rapids Community Foundation: Economic Club of Grand Rapids Study Abroad Scholarship (PDF)* (http://www.grfoundation.org/pdfs/scholarships/F-EconClub_Scholshp.pdf) - For business majors. Deadline April 1.
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants (http://www.phikappaphi.org/Web/Awards/Study_Abroad.html) - designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Forty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year.
The National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships (http://www.borenawards.org/) - Merit-based awards vary with program costs and financial aid status. Maximum award for summer is $8,000, $10,000 per semester and $20,000 for academic year. Requires study of less commonly taught languages in all countries except Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. MSU campus deadline is early January (see the MSU National/International Fellowships & Scholarships (/https://nifs.msu.edu/awards)site).
Sara's Wish Foundation (http://www.saraswish.org/international_travel.htm)- established to perpetuate the memory of Sara Christie Schewe, killed in a fatal bus crash in India in 1996 while participating in the University of Pittsburgh's Semester at Sea Program.
Go! Abroad Scholarship (http://www.gooverseas.com/study-abroad/) - Scholarships are awarded each year. The scholarship is awarded based on the creativity and analytical thinking displayed through writing samples and/or video submissions.
Diversity Network Summer Scholarship (http://www.diversitynetwork.org/scholarships) - Diversity Network, in partnership with STA Travel, offers summer travel scholarships for students from member institutions, including Michigan State University. Eighteen awards of $750 will be granted to students to help offset the cost of travel to their host countries.
Rotary International Scholarship (http://www.rotary.org/en/StudentsAndYouth/EducationalPrograms/AmbassadorialScholarships/Pages/ridefault.aspx) - Multiple awards available with multiple deadlines and in varying amounts.
