Emergency preparedness

Once on site, your program leader should discuss appropriate emergency preparedness steps with you. These steps might reflect preparing for natural disasters, such as hurricanes or earthquakes, as well as communication protocols for electrical outages or cell tower overloads. For more information on personal emergency planning, visit the U.S. Department of State's Emergency Assistance to American Citizens Abroad website.

It is also important to find the nearest U.S. Embassy. If you have a cell phone, you can search, find, and contact the nearest U.S. Embassy through the Find Your Embassy app. This site is accessible on any web-enabled mobile device and requires no download of application software.
