Pre-departure Health Preparation

MSU Travel Clinic

If your program goes to higher health risk locations such as Africa, Central/South America, China, Eastern Europe, Mexico, Russia, Southeast Asia, or Ukraine, you should visit your physician or a local travel clinic. This is not necessary for low risk travel locations (such as Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, New Zealand, the UK or Ireland) unless you have a health condition to discuss with your provider.

The MSU Travel Clinic provides extensive, individualized consultation to eligible MSU students. The clinic provides the following services:

The appointment fees are based on the length of the consultation time ($35 for 15 minutes up to $95 for 60 minutes). See the payment section of the Travel Clinic website for consultation fees as well as immunization and pharmacy costs.

The more organized you are with your history, program location and activities and the like, the shorter and less expensive your appointment will be. Ask your program leader for the program itinerary, including the type of accommodations and activities.

To help students communicate with their personal physicians about their travel location(s) abroad, the MSU Travel Clinic has produced Physician Letters that you should print out and take to your appointment. You should also print a copy of the CDC Recommendations for your travel locations prior to meeting with your physician.

Non-MSU students should contact their personal physician, local travel clinic, or the MSU Travel Clinic.
