Tuition for fee-paying (non-exchange) participants in the American semester program is $729.25 per credit in all areas except Education (including Kineseology) which is $779.25 per credit. The standard load is 12 credits, so the standard semester fee is 12 x $729.25 = $8751.00. If you take more than 12 credits, you'll need to budget for the additional per credit fee.
The fee for the next academic year is set in mid June.
American Semester students are guaranteed on-campus housing in a shared room, and a meal plan is a compulsory part of the package. We recommend a silver meal plan, which gives you unlimited access to 14 undergraduate dining halls across campus. The cost of a room and meals for 2011-12 is $4077 per semester.
It is possible to live in a single room at additional cost. Please contact us to discuss the options.
More information on meal plans is available on the Eat At State web site.
Once you sign your housing contract, you will face a financial penalty if you try to break the contract.
All American Semester participants must have health insurance as the cost of health care in the USA is high. If you have health insurance already, this may be used to waive the health insurance requirement, as long as it gives you equivalent coverage. Visit the Student Health Page if you wish to explore this option further.
If you need to purchase health insurance, the cost (2010-11 rates) is as follows:
Additional taxes and fees are around $50 per semester. This includes the international student registration fee.
MSU recommends that students budget $1738 per year for personal and miscellaneous spending and $980 per year for textbooks.
For your visa documents, you need to show that you have $6,300 to cover expenses, if you have already paid your tuition fees. If you have not already paid tuition, the amount is $14,500. For exchange students, the amount is $6,300.
