Lynn in Spain

Lynn Aguado coordinates MSU study abroad programs in France, Italy, Greece and Turkey. In addition, Lynn manages the Office of Study Abroad scholarship and evaluation processes.

Lynn grew up in Dearborn, Michigan and got her B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Michigan. While there, she studied abroad during her junior year at the Universidad de Sevilla in Seville, Spain, where she developed fluency in Spanish and a love of discovering new cultures. After returning home, she worked as a peer advisor in the U of M study abroad office helping students choose programs and prepare for their sojourns abroad. U of M hired Lynn after graduation as a study abroad advisor, and she has been working in the field of international education for the past 16 years. In addition to working at U of M, she has spent ten years as a study abroad advisor and later coordinator at the University of Missouri’s International Center.

Studying abroad in Spain had a profound impact on her life. To start, Lynn says she would not be in the job she has today if not for her experience abroad and subsequent student peer advisor position. She uses her Spanish language skills and the French that she studied in high school and college to communicate with her colleagues abroad and to interpret web sites and transcripts for her students. She also began studying Italian in order to better communicate with her colleagues in Italy. Lynn has learned to be flexible and patient through her experiences living and studying in Spain. She understands that there is more than one way to accomplish a goal, and she helps students to understand this and other cultural adaptability strategies as they navigate the administrative and academic systems in France, Italy and Turkey.
